It’s never easy to land your first client, especially when you don’t have any projects to
showcase yet. And that’s exactly the main blocking point, because clients rely on three
essential criteria when deciding whether or not to work with you:
1st criterion : Your portfolio
2nd criterion : Your pricing
3rd criterion : Your process (steps, timelines, client feedback)
So what do you do when you have no projects to present ?
👉 Simply create a fictional project for a real company.
To do this, you need to find a company that meets three criteria:
  1. A company with budget
  2. A company that shows real interest in a motion design presentation video
  3. A topic you actually enjoy working on
Discover the full list of domains where a motion design presentation video can make a real difference.
You’ve found the company for your video ✅
You know the 4 essential stages (Script, Storyboard, Voice Over, Video) ✅
You start writing your script (via Onboard-me or a free tool for now) 🕗
(If you don’t yet have €45/month to invest in Onboard-me, don’t use the tool just yet. We’ll use it once your video is completed, in order to take advantage of the 14-day free trial for prospecting and send your project link directly to potential clients.)
Use Google Docs, Notion, or any other tool only for the script. We will use Onboard-me to take a more professional approach when reaching out to prospects. If you already have the tool, go directly to the page: 3. Writing your project script
